Barbell bench press log

Record completed reps, load and unit. State whether the load includes the bar, and keep warm-up sets separate from working sets.

Make the weight number unambiguous

For a total-load log, count the bar plus plates on both sides. Label plates-only entries so you can distinguish them from totals.

Example: a confirmed 20 kg bar plus 10 kg of plates on each side gives 20 + 10 + 10 = 40 kg total. Use the actual bar weight; 20 kg is not a universal value.

Keep the variant with the record

Keep flat, incline, decline and close-grip bench-press records separate. A note such as “flat bench; total includes bar” preserves the context.

If the equipment or load convention changes, record when. Switching from plates-only to total load can increase the number without a heavier lift.

Read the next session against the same record

Compare the same exercise, unit and load convention first, then read the completed reps for each set. Keep unfinished rows distinct from completed work.

Start a separate worksheet

Download the Barbell Bench Press CSV starter. Only the exercise name is prefilled. Add actual completed records, kg or lb when known, and your load convention in the exercise / variation field.

This separate worksheet is not a native Flame app import. Or use the workout log; check arithmetic with the volume calculator.
